The history of the region dates back to 1851 - the Samara province was formed by the Decree ofNicholas I, the Emperor of the Russian Empire. The area of ??the new territorial and administrative unit was almost 159 thousand km2. It included part of the lands of the Orenburg, Saratov and Simbirsk provinces, as well as the lands of the Samara and Syzran districts. Over time, the composition of its territory and the name have changed several times. The current borders were established only in 1943. The purpose of the creation of the Samara province in the middle of the 19th century was the development of the country's outskirts. At that time, the Trans-Volga territories were considered a military border region, and the oldest cities in the region were fortresses designed to protect trade routes.
