23 May 2014
The meeting of the president of AUCHAN in Russia Jean-Pierre Germain and the Togliatti's mayor Sergey Andreev was held on May 22. The meeting was organized by the department of international and interregional relations of Togliatti.
Mr. Germain told the Togliatti officials about AUCHAN and Its development plans in Russia and Togliatti.
For 13 years of activity at our countrys market the company opened 80 AUCHAN stores (one of them is operating in the Republic of Crimea), with 35 000 employees working there. In total, more than $2 billion invested in the Russia's economy. AUCHAN stores serve more than 280 million customers annually. Today, AUCHAN is a largest foreign company working in Russia. The company is the third biggest retailer in the world.
Plans to open a store in Togliatti have long been considered by the company. After Real hypermarket has become a part of AUCHAN, a small (by corporate standards) Auchan-city store opened in Park-House mall. However, the French company is not going to stop. Mr. Germain declared, - The city of Togliatti deserves a big AUCHAN store. It is a very promising city. There are good roads, comfortable logistics. This is good for big outlet centers.
Jean-Pierre Germain mentioned that he had already been to Togliatti in 2007 and met with the city's administration. Presently, the land plot was identified for the construction of a full-scale AUCHAN store. Such well-known brands as Leroy Merlain, Sport Master and McDonalds have already agreed to lease space in the new mall.
There are small technical issues in solving of which the company's representatives are expecting the city leaders' help.
Sergey Andreev expressed his agreement with AUCHAN plans and assured the company's president that the city would do its best to make it happen.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation on all issues.
